Spring 2010
Hands Around the World
Famous Places Around the World
Hands around the World is an exchange of paper hands. Students cut out and decorate their hands. This Spring’s theme is Famous Places Around the World. Your students will show some of the “famous places” that people should visit if they come to your community. If you live in a small community, you might not have something that is “famous” around the world but... this is your chance! You get to tell students, in other parts of the country and the world, about those special places in your community. They can also research the history of the community they live in.
A paragraph (or series of paragraphs) from the class will be emailed to Imagiverse in advance of the exchange. This paragraph will be posted with representative handprints.
The purpose of this activity is a cultural exchange. Please be sensitive to other cultures. For example, it is not appropriate to make comments like “America is the best” or similar comments about religion. It is about sharing and embracing culture and diversity. It is a wonderful learning activity for adults as well as children.
Past feedback indicates that the process of making the hands was the best part of the exchange. Student enjoy the process of researching and sharing those things they often take for granted. Receiving hands from other schools was the “icing on the cake”. Many schools sent photographs of their displays and many used the hands to decorate the school.
More information will be coming soon. Stay tuned!
