FOLKLORE AND COSTUMES FROM TURKEY
FOLKLORE AND COSTUMES FROM TURKEY
I am writing to you from Turkey. My class has 13 boys and 7 girls. We present Turkish cultural costumes with our paper dolls. Also we try to present national festivals ( children wear great clothes), religious festival costumes and legendary characters costumes.
A National Children’s Festival is held on April 23rd. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, dedicated the day to Turkish children. He often said, “Children are a new beginning of tomorrow”. The first celebration of the Children’s Festival was on April 23rd, 1920, when the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) was founded. It is organized so as to improve the feelings of fraternity, love and friendship among children and also to contribute to a world, where they will live in peace. Children wear great costumes! .
How me made paper dolls: We use paper doll figures. We cut them out and decorated with pasted on clothing. We used some fabric, colourful pencils, wool, cotton, ribbons, graphon cards, glitter powder etc. ("Graphon" is kind of paper. In Turkish we call it as "grafon kağıdı".)
