ST. NICHOLAS DAY IN AUSTRIA
ST. NICHOLAS DAY IN AUSTRIA
St. Nicholas Day is celebrated on December 6th and goes back to the story of an Archbishop in Turkey (Nicholas of Myra) who helped poor people by putting coins into their boots if they left them outside for him. So children put out their boots on the 5th of December at night and hope for candies and other little presents. Sometimes St. Nicholas even comes to the children of our school on the 6th of December and reads from his golden book who had been good or naughty the last year. Children who have been good get candies and chocolates. The others would get coal and a tree branch.
Luckily we´re good children and we always get chocolates, candies, nuts and tangerines in special St Nicholas bags that we make ourselves in our craft lessons before December 6th.
